Are you busy on the 14th of July this year?

I wonder how many of you have a ready answer and know exactly what you'll be doing on the 14th of July? Celebrating Bastille Day perhaps? Or if you happen to be getting married on that date you'll have a pretty good idea. But, given it's only January,  how many of your guests would have answered 'I'm going to a wedding'?

With the majority of weddings coinciding with the peak summer holiday season, there is a chance that some of the people you want to have at your wedding may be considering catching some much needed sun and merrily booking a couple of weeks away, blissfully ignorant that they'll be missing your big day. And so it came to pass that the save the date card was born.

Essentially a save the date card is a neat little reminder to send to your guests to ensure that they don’t book a holiday in Italy the week of your wedding or equally to make sure they do book time off work to be available to attend your big day.

If you are inviting quite a large number of friends and family the save the date card is really useful. You should send them out as soon as you have set a definite date, usually when you have booked your venue. If you are having quite a small wedding you can probably do without these and just let everyone know via facebook or good old fashioned telling them by using your actual face.

Either way it's a good idea to let everyone know to save the date for your wedding as soon as you can.
